Jaguar Land Rover Resumes Production After Cyber Attack, UK Government Steps In
Jaguar Range Rover, a prominent UK employer, has been struck by a cyber attack that brought down its global operations. Around 30,000 people work directly for the company in the UK, with another 100,000 jobs in the supply chain. The British Government has stepped in to provide a loan of 1.5 billion pounds (NZ$3.48bn) to support the company as it works to resume production.
The attack, which occurred on August 31, affected plants in the UK, China, Slovakia, India, and Brazil. While the exact resumption dates are not fully detailed, UK plants are expected to restart in a phased manner from October 1, 2025. Engine operations at Wolverhampton are likely to be the first to resume. Jaguar Land Rover will undertake a 'controlled, phased restart' of its factory operations. A complete reboot across all factories could still take weeks or months.
The loan agreement, which prioritises UK suppliers, is a significant boost for the company as it works to recover from the attack. Jaguar Land Rover employs approximately 30,000 people directly in the UK, with a further 100,000 jobs in the supply chain. The company's operations are a vital part of the UK's automotive industry.
The cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover has had a significant impact on the company's operations and the wider automotive industry. However, with the support of the British Government and a planned phased restart of production, the company is working to minimise the disruption caused by the attack.
