BYD E-Vali Electric Delivery Van Makes Debut in European Markets
The BYD E-Vali, a mid-range electric delivery van, made its debut in European markets in September 2024, marking a significant step in the company's expansion of its product line. This large van, measuring almost 7 meters in length, is designed for last-mile delivery applications and boasts a slightly curved front and a largely boxy shape.
The E-Vali is powered by BYD's 6-in-1 electric drivetrain, delivering up to 150 kW of power and 550 Nm of torque. It is equipped with blade batteries, ensuring efficient energy storage and fast charging capabilities. Charging the E-Vali at the depot with AC charging can be done via a standard 11 kW on-board charger, or upgraded to 22 kW. With DC charging power of 188 kW, the E-Vali's battery can be charged from 20-100% in just one hour. This charging setup allows the E-Vali to be fully charged in under 6 hours.
The E-Vali offers a driving range of about 220 to 250 km under the WLTP test cycle, thanks to its approximately 80 kWh battery. It is available with rear-wheel drive featuring a single 150 kW motor, limited to a top speed of 90 km/h. There is also an all-wheel-drive version that adds a 100 kW motor on the front axle, increasing the top speed to 120 km/h.
Depending on configuration, the payload varies from 700 kg to 1450 kg. Loading capacity options for the E-Vali include 3.5 tonne and 4.25 tonne versions, with cargo volumes of 13.9 or 17.9 cubic meters. The E-Vali is taller than a standard truck, as shown in a photo, making it well-suited for urban logistics.
Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, a company specializing in Australian EV data, insight reports, and trends, played a role in the development of the E-Vali. A mechanical engineer, Riz spent the first 7 years of his career building transport infrastructure before starting carloop. He has a passion for cars, particularly EVs, and aims to help reduce transport emissions in Australia. He currently drives a red Tesla Model 3.
On-road testing of the E-Vali is underway, and it is expected to be launched in the second half of 2025 in various European markets. Following its European launch, the E-Vali may be introduced to other parts of the world as more businesses and governments focus on reducing transport emissions.
