Breadstack Solutions, a global leader in e-commerce enablement, is on the hunt for a skilled and strategic Tech Lead to join their Web Engineering department. This remote role, with preferred working hours from 2 AM to 10 AM Pacific Time, Monday to Friday, promises a mission-critical position with global impact.
As the Tech Lead, you will be the senior technical authority for all WordPress projects, ensuring best practices in engineering, site stability, performance, and scalability. You'll be the "developer of last resort," untangling complex technical issues and resolving critical bugs, performance issues, and outages.
Your responsibilities will include architecting scalable WordPress solutions, enforcing development best practices, providing architectural direction, code reviews, and technical mentorship to the WordPress development team. You'll also be expected to translate designs into pixel-perfect, responsive frontends, optimize sites for perfect Lighthouse scores, and manage crisis recovery from crashes or urgent production bugs.
To qualify for this role, you'll need 3+ years of hands-on experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins. Expert proficiency in PHP, SQL, MVC patterns, and OOP is essential, as is deep knowledge of the WordPress API and REST API. Strong JavaScript skills, CSS expertise, familiarity with Node.js, npm, and Gulp for build processes, and experience using Composer for dependency management are also required.
In addition to technical prowess, you'll need clear and confident technical communication skills, empathetic mentorship abilities, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize under pressure. Excellent written and verbal English skills are a must.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes is a plus, but not a deal-breaker. The Tech Lead role reports to the Director of Technology and involves leading and mentoring a distributed team of WordPress developers, conducting code reviews, setting technical direction, and upholding Breadstack engineering standards. You'll also collaborate closely with Product, Design, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
