Mitsubishi Makes Modifications to Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, Eclipse Cross, and Outlander Sport Vehicles
Mitsubishi Unveils Refreshed 2026 Outlander Lineup
Mitsubishi Motors has announced an updated lineup for its popular Outlander SUV and the Eclipse Cross, with the 2026 Outlander featuring a modern 1.5L turbo mild-hybrid powertrain and the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) boasting enhanced efficiency and technology.
Starting at $32,000, the standard 2026 Outlander replaces the previous naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a new 1.5-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid engine based on the Eclipse Cross powertrain. This change aims to improve drivability and efficiency. The specific power output numbers for this mild-hybrid setup have not been officially released yet. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available for an additional $1,800 on most trims. The mid-level SE trim with the Tech package offers the best value, featuring upgrades like a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system and panoramic sunroof.
The Outlander PHEV, priced in the mid-$40,000 range, offers a larger-capacity battery, resulting in a longer all-electric range and better acceleration. It also improves fuel efficiency by reducing the engine run time. The powertrain is a gas/electric 2.4-liter I-4 engine producing around 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. The PHEV model seats 7 passengers, has four-wheel drive, and offers a combined fuel economy of around 26 mpg.
The updated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid also features enhanced sound insulation, a redesigned interior, and a recalibrated ride for greater responsiveness and composure. It comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen as an optional feature, along with a revised front grille and bumper, new 20-inch wheels, and smoked taillights.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Outlander Sport returns unchanged, remaining one of Mitsubishi's strongest sellers. The Eclipse Cross, on the other hand, sees the embedded navigation system discontinued and the "Eclipse Cross" hood badging standard on SEL and SEL Touring trims. Every Eclipse Cross continues to come equipped with Mitsubishi's S-AWC all-wheel drive.
Mitsubishi is also expanding its Trail Edition offerings for the 2026 model year, including the Outlander Sport and Outlander. These editions offer off-road-ready enhancements.
The updated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid promises smoother acceleration and better overall efficiency. Each new vehicle also comes with a 2-year/30,000-mile maintenance program.
Mitsubishi's commitment to electrification is evident in its Momentum 2030 plan, with the 2026 model year representing a pivotal step in this direction. The company is introducing its first mild-hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain in the 2026 Outlander.
All Mitsubishi vehicles are covered by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, seven-year/100,000-mile corrosion/perforation warranty, and five years of unlimited mileage roadside assistance.
In a recent study by Ipsos, 97% of prospective small CUV shoppers who considered the Outlander Sport ultimately purchased one, demonstrating the strong appeal of Mitsubishi's SUV offerings.
