Moponta SA Completes Challenging Luzzone Dam Wall Project

Moponta SA, a local scaffolding specialist from Ticino, successfully completed a challenging project at the Luzzone dam wall in the summer of 2025. The company, founded in 1989 and employing 15 people, tackled the complex task of installing a protective grid construction and a double-ring encasement.

The main hurdle was calculating the self-weight of the construction and precisely positioning the scaffolding elements. Moponta SA rose to the challenge, using a digital 3D model created with drone and point cloud technology to plan the scaffolding. The model allowed for precise measurements and a clear understanding of the structure's layout.

The project involved installing a protective grid construction to enhance hydraulic safety and sediment discharge. Additionally, a complex encasement with an outer and inner ring was installed at the spillway structure of the dam. Approximately 20 tons of modular RINGSCAFF scaffolding system were used to accomplish this task.

Moponta SA's expertise extends beyond dams. The company has previously completed projects such as scaffolding for an ice rink with an emergency roof spanning 46 meters and covering 4500 square meters.
