Music streaming platform Apple introduces its classical music service
Apple has unveiled a new addition to its music streaming platform – Apple Music. This innovative app, designed specifically for classical music enthusiasts, offers a wealth of features that cater to the unique needs of classical music listeners.
The app boasts expert commentary and selected works in The Story of Classical audio guides, allowing users to delve deeper into the history and context of their favourite pieces. Leading classical artists are also invited to offer track-by-track audio commentary, providing a personal touch to the listening experience.
Apple Music is now available for all iPhone models running iOS 15.4 or later. While the app is not yet available in China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Turkey, it can be downloaded on the App Store everywhere Apple Music is offered.
One of the standout features of Apple Music is its Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, which offers an immersive 360-degree soundscape. The app supports unique categories such as works, composers, and recordings for personal library curation.
The app's search function is optimised for classical music, using all combinations of keywords, making it easier for users to find their favourite pieces or discover new ones. The interface is designed to provide clear information about each work, including orchestra, conductor, contributing artists, and year of recording.
Apple Music offers the highest audio quality available, including Spatial Audio for immersive listening experiences. Its lossless audio extends up to 24 bit/192 kHz throughout the service. The app's Spatial Audio catalog is growing weekly with remastered and contemporary performances.
In partnership with renowned classical institutions, Apple Music brings unique and exclusive content to its users. The app also features the world's largest classical music catalog, with over 5 million tracks. It showcases lesser-known works in Hidden Gems and Composer Undiscovered playlists, providing a platform for lesser-known compositions and artists.
Existing Apple Music subscribers can immediately enjoy Apple Music at no additional cost. The app's editors have created over 700 playlists to guide listeners through 800 years of music, while the Browse tab helps listeners explore the largest classical catalog in the world.
Apple Music for Android is coming soon, expanding the app's reach to even more classical music lovers. With its wealth of features and extensive catalog, Apple Music is set to become a go-to destination for classical music enthusiasts worldwide.
