New PS5 update elevates DualSense controller to unprecedented heights

The much-anticipated update for the PlayStation 5 is set to bring a significant boost to the DualSense wireless controller. This update will enable the DualSense controller to be paired simultaneously with up to four different devices, providing a more flexible gaming experience across various platforms [1][3][5].

Previously, a DualSense controller could be used with an iPad over Bluetooth, but needed to be paired again with each device after initial pairing. With the new update, users can now register up to four devices at the same time, eliminating the need for repetitive pairing [2].

Pairing is done by holding the PS button and one of the four face buttons (circle, triangle, square, or cross), with each face button corresponding to a different device slot. To switch between paired devices, simply press and hold the PS button along with the face button assigned to the target device [3].

When pairing, the controller’s light bar and player indicator will flash to show the device number (1 through 4) to which it is connected. This update will be beneficial for those who want to use the controller across multiple platforms, such as PS5, PC, and mobile devices [4].

The new update will also introduce a Power Saver mode, which is entirely optional and allows users to save energy while playing. Additionally, the update is part of a series of tweaks and patches in the upcoming system software for PS5 and PS5 Pro [6].

The new system software beta for PS5 is available to invited participants from July 24 and will be coming to everyone at a later date. Initially, the feature is available to invited participants, with a wider rollout planned "later" [7].

For those who want to put the controller into Bluetooth mode, press the PlayStation button and the button of choice, then pair it with your device. It's important to note that the update will enable simultaneous pairing of the controller with up to four devices, including a PS5, PC or Mac, tablet, and phone [8].

The update will also allow DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers to connect wirelessly to more than one device. The controller's light bar will blink to indicate which slot is being used, between one and four times [9].

Sony's "Road to Zero" environmental plan is another aspect of the update, with the Power Saver mode being a part of this initiative. The update is intended to benefit those who want to use the controller across multiple platforms, offering a more seamless and convenient gaming experience [10].
