New Zealand's Wellington secures a 538 million euro deal with our company for the acquisition of 18 Adessia Stream B battery trains, along with a 35-year maintenance agreement.

In a significant move towards sustainable public transportation, the Greater Wellington Regional Council has awarded a contract worth 1.065 billion New Zealand dollars to our company. This contract is a part of the Lower North Island Rail Integrated Mobility (LNIRIM) program, marking the latest addition to our company's Adessia commuter trains.

The contract, announced on September 8, 2025, includes the design, manufacturing, and supply of 18 five-car Adessia Stream B battery multiple units (BEMUs), each capable of carrying up to 475 passengers and reaching a top speed of 120 km/h. This makes it the first order of battery-powered commuter trains in New Zealand.

The trains will be tailored to meet Wellington's specific operational needs, featuring an intelligent control system and an onboard battery, allowing emission-free operation in sections of the 9 km Remutaka Tunnel. They will also introduce advanced technologies for the operation and maintenance of trains in New Zealand for the first time, including predictive maintenance technologies based on HealthHub and a driver assistance system.

Passenger comfort will be a priority, with dedicated spaces for wheelchairs, bicycles, luggage, and baby strollers. The trains will also feature an livery incorporating elements of Te Ao Māori and aspects of Aotearoa’s culture, designed by Indigenous Design and Innovation.

In addition to the supply of the trains, the contract also includes 35 years of maintenance, with a state-of-the-art workshop to be constructed in Masterton, managed by our company. This workshop will be equipped with cutting-edge technology for fleet and battery maintenance. The contract also includes 35 years of FlexCare Perform maintenance for the entire fleet.

This latest contract adds to orders including 11 battery trains for a German operator and 31 trains for Irish Rail in Ireland, further solidifying our company's position in the global rail industry. However, as of the time of this article, there are no search results providing information about Pascal Dupond or his role in our company.

The Adessia commuter trains are designed to replace the existing diesel fleet with a carbon-zero emission solution, marking a significant step forward in New Zealand's efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable transportation.
