Nigeria's Web3 Ecosystem Leads Africa, Surpassing 1.1 Million Developers
Nigeria's Web3 ecosystem is thriving, leading Africa and accounting for 4% of global new developers in 2024. The country has witnessed remarkable growth, with its developer community surging by 28% year-on-year to surpass 1.1 million developers.
Nigeria's Web3 scene is dominated by the young, with 86% of developers under 27 and over half joining within the last year. Despite this, only 15% hold full-time positions, with 45% working as freelancers. The leading sectors are DeFi and payments, employing around 35% of developers.
Javascript is the preferred programming language, used by 50% of all Nigerian developers. The surge in female participation, now at 17%, and the growth in full-time positions are positive trends. However, 90% of Nigerian Web3 developers earn below global standards due to local market conditions and currency depreciation.
Nigeria's Web3 developer community grew by 46% in 2023 and is expected to maintain a CAGR of 7.6% from 2024 to 2030. With increased investment, such as the $11 million received by infrastructure companies in 2024, the ecosystem is poised for further growth and innovation.
