Nintendo Switch 2 to Deliver Superior Graphics - Nvidia CEO Praises Custom Chip Innovations Prior to Launch
New and Improved Nintendo Switch 2 Puts Performance and Style in Your Hands
Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, is hyping up the processor in Nintendo Switch 2, set to drop on June 5. In a unique turn of events, Huang discussed the console's technical specs in a special edition of Nintendo's "Creator's Voice" series, a rare occurrence for Nintendo.
Huang revealed that the new Nvidia chip boasts three groundbreaking features: top-tier graphics for a mobile device, full hardware ray-tracing, and high dynamic range for vivid highlights and deep shadows, all wrapped up in an architecture supporting backward compatibility.
Interestingly, Nintendo's hardware team had already confirmed the inclusion of DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology, albeit Nvidia didn't dive deep into specifications while discussing the chip. In their blog post, they focused primarily on the RT cores, stating that the new chip offers "10x the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch."
According to a report by Digital Foundry, the Switch 2 sports eight ARM Cortex A78C cores based on the ARMv8 64-bit instruction set, a GPU rooted in Nvidia's two-generation-old Ampere architecture, and a memory subsystem powered by two 6GB LPDDR5X memory modules (12GB total) operating on a 128-bit memory interface. The console also features 256GB of UFS storage and a microSD Express card slot that supports additional storage of up to 2TB.
The video, though predominantly about Nvidia's role in the original Switch, also paid tribute to Satoru Iwata, the fourth president of Nintendo, who oversaw the console's development but passed away before its launch.
The Switch 2 is available for $449.99 when it drops on June 5, with a limited-time bundle with Mario Kart World retailing for $499.99. Pre-orders have already been snapped up, but some brick-and-mortar stores might still have stock on launch day.
