Nio Files Lawsuits Against Bloggers Over Defamatory Claims

In a bold move to protect its brand reputation, Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has filed lawsuits against several bloggers, including prominent supporters of Li Auto. The legal action was taken in response to false information spread online just as Nio's sub-brand Onvo was about to launch its L90 SUV.

The bloggers, active on platforms like WeChat, Weibo, and Douyin, are accused of defamation. Among the high-profile defendants is Weibo automotive blogger @大D有态度, known for his support of Li Auto and boasting 444,000 followers.

According to Nio's legal department, a coordinated wave of online accounts fabricated information to attack both Nio and Onvo brands, causing significant harm to the company and its employees. Other named defendants include accounts such as 海仙思录, 大D有态度, 阿文鉴机, 山丘下的星星, 你真是个傻孩子, 至尊宝哥哥, and ιοιδ schÁ.

@大D有态度 responded publicly on Weibo, expressing his interest in the lawsuit and a willingness to actively defend himself in court.

This legal campaign by Nio is part of a broader effort to combat malicious defamation and disinformation on social media. The company has opened a dedicated "Nio Legal Department" Weibo account to handle such issues and reported progress in ongoing lawsuits. Nio has previously denied allegations that its Onvo sub-brand engaged in orchestrated online attacks on rivals, labeling such allegations as defamatory.

The lawsuit represents Nio’s aggressive legal stance against perceived coordinated defamation campaigns by bloggers supporting competing EV makers like Li Auto. As the launch of the Onvo L90 SUV approaches on July 31, Nio is determined to safeguard its brand and reputation.
