Oracle & OpenAI Team Up for World's Largest AI Data Centers, Microsoft Expands Capabilities
Oracle and OpenAI have joined forces to build the world's largest AI data centers, aiming to outnumber their hyperscaler rivals like Google and Microsoft. Microsoft, too, is expanding its AI capabilities, opening new centers and co-innovation labs. These investments promise substantial job creation and technological advancements.
Oracle and OpenAI's Stargate project plans to construct AI data centers in Shackelford County, Texas, and Doña Ana County, New Mexico, with a third location in the Midwest yet to be named. This initiative is expected to generate over 25,000 onsite jobs and tens of thousands more across the U.S.
Microsoft, meanwhile, has unveiled its 'most-powerful AI data center' and a new generation named 'Fairwater'. In Wisconsin, the company has opened an AI Co-Innovation Lab and a Datacenter Academy, creating jobs and fostering local talent. The Wisconsin AI data center alone is set to employ thousands during construction and around 800 full-time staff once completed.
The combined investment of Oracle and OpenAI over the next three years is over $400 billion, with a planned capacity of nearly 7 gigawatts. This partnership represents a $300 billion commitment over the next five years.
These massive investments in AI data centers by Oracle, OpenAI, and Microsoft signal a significant push in technological advancements. They promise substantial job creation, economic growth, and potentially transformative benefits for humanity.
