AI Transforms AV/IT Industry at InfoComm 2022

Artificial intelligence (AI) took center stage at InfoComm 2022, as industry leaders highlighted its transformative impact on the AV/IT sector. The conference, held in June, showcased the ways AI is enhancing automation, improving operational efficiency, and enabling smarter, data-driven decision-making.

One of the key figures driving this change is Joe Pham, CEO of QSC | Q-SYS, who is using NVIDIA GPUs in their Seervision and is open to evaluating other semiconductor companies. Pham's perspective on AI processing is changing, as he now considers the bandwidth between the cloud and the edge as a potential economic consideration.

Several companies exhibiting at InfoComm, including 22Miles, Aurora Multimedia, Avocor, Barco ClickShare, Carousel Digital Signage, Crestron, Legrand | AV, Matrox Video, Mersive Technologies, Nureva, QSC | Q-SYS, Sennheiser, Shure, and Sony Electronics, are already leveraging AI in their products.

Shure, for instance, has been using AI for several years to enhance algorithms in products like IntelliMix Room. Their CEO, Chris Schyvinck, stated that the term AI gained prominence with the rise of ChatGPT. Shure's AI algorithm has been trained for three years, and machine learning is used to train the AI in their products.

Theresa Benson, vice president of Product Management and Marketing at Mersive Technology, believes AI will revolutionize the AV field, making experiences more personalized, efficient, and immersive. Aurora Multimedia's CEO, Paul Harris, shares this sentiment, believing AI will play a significant role in AV, particularly in control system programming, camera technology, and sound quality.

AI is also expected to accelerate workflow by simplifying content creation, as stated by Amber Ward, director of marketing at Carousel Digital Signage. The impact of AI is seen globally, with the U.S. leading in AI autonomy such as self-driving technologies relevant to AV/IT, while other countries focus differently, reflecting varying innovation emphases.

However, concerns around AI transparency and trust were also noted as crucial. AV/IT companies must address these issues to ensure adoption and reliability in mission-critical environments. As AI becomes more prevalent in our daily lives, it's essential to have important conversations about its proper use.

In summary, at InfoComm 2022, industry leaders recognised AI as a key driver of digital transformation in AV/IT, with a strong current impact in automation and predictive capabilities and a future delivering higher efficiency, smarter systems, and new professional opportunities, balanced by a need for building trust and managing complexity.

  1. The AI-powered digital signage products from companies like QSC | Q-SYS, 22Miles, and Aurora Multimedia are utilizing advanced technology to make AV/IT experiences more personalized and efficient.
  2. As AI continues to revolutionize the AV field, Artificial Intelligence will further feature in key areas such as control system programming, camera technology, and sound quality, as predicted by Mersive Technology and Aurora Multimedia.
