Polestar Unveils Precept Concept With Revolutionary Digital Rearview Mirror
Polestar, the electric vehicle arm of Volvo Cars, has unveiled the Precept concept car, not just for innovation's sake, but to drive meaningful change in automotive design. A standout feature is its digital rearview mirror, a departure from the traditional design that has dominated for over a century.
The Polestar Precept features a unique toggle system that allows drivers to switch between an HD digital display and a traditional rearview mirror. This innovation is made possible by a 2.5-megapixel camera with a 121-degree field of view, which transmits real-time information to the cabin's 8.9-inch HD display. This digital rearview mirror not only improves safety by providing a clearer picture of what's behind the vehicle, especially in poor lighting or rain conditions, but also creates a more immersive and luxurious backseat experience by opening up space that would otherwise be occupied by a rear window.
Ola Aldensjö, Product Manager for Polestar 4, is overseeing the development and management of this electric vehicle model. The digital display can also be switched to a standard rearview mirror mode for driver supervision of rear passengers, ensuring the comfort and safety of all occupants.
Polestar Precept's digital rearview mirror is a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and improvement in automotive design. By honoring the legacy of Ray, the inventor of the rearview mirror, Polestar is paving the way for a new era in car design, one that prioritizes safety, comfort, and innovation.
