Potential Advantage of Google Pixel 10 Over iPhone 17: An Anticipated Edge Prior to Apple's Release
In the world of smartphones, August 20 is a date to watch as Google prepares to unveil the latest addition to its Pixel family - the Pixel 10. This new device promises to bring a fresh perspective to mobile photography, with its triple-camera setup and advanced AI capabilities.
The Pixel 10 is set to boast a 48MP wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens with 5x zoom. The Pro variants of the Pixel 10 will feature higher-resolution cameras, capable of up to 100x zoom, and enhanced AI imaging.
Comparatively, the iPhone 17, due for release around the same time, is rumoured to have a dual rear-camera setup, while the Samsung Galaxy S25 sports a trio of rear cameras. The main wide camera on the Pixel 10 matches the iPhone 17's 48MP resolution, but the Galaxy S25 edges ahead with a 50MP sensor.
The Pixel 10 stands out with its strong zoom capabilities, surpassing the Galaxy S25’s 3x zoom, and offering competitive main camera specs. The iPhone 17, on the other hand, shines with a higher-resolution 24MP front camera and slightly faster aperture on the main wide lens, optimized for selfies and video. The Galaxy S25, while reliable, is generally viewed as having a slightly dated telephoto zoom and a main camera similar to the Pixel 10’s predecessor.
If the Pixel 10's telephoto camera can keep its price around $799 / £799/ AU$1,349, it could be a competitive entry-level high-end Android phone. Google's Pixel phones are integrating AI very neatly, and the next-generation Pixel could have a telephoto camera.
Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy AI is not lagging behind in attracting people to Android. If the telephoto camera rumour is true, Apple will be the only one among the big three phone brands without a telephoto camera on their standard premium phone. The standard Pixel phones often get swamped by their Pro stablemates, but more camera capabilities are expected for the standard Pixel phones.
As for personal preferences, I value a telephoto camera over an ultra-wide one. I tend to use phones with telephoto cameras, such as Pro iPhones and Pixel phones. The launch of the Google Pixel 10 could potentially affect the price of the Pixel 9, and Apple may add a trio of rear cameras to the iPhone 18 in 2026.
For those who prioritize zoom versatility and AI-powered imaging, the Pixel 10 could be a compelling choice. For those who value selfie quality and video capabilities, the iPhone 17 might be the better option. And for those who appreciate a solid overall system, the Galaxy S25 remains a reliable choice, albeit with less telephoto zoom reach than the Pixel 10.
