Vodafone Boosts Mobile and Broadband Infrastructure in Germany
Vodafone, one of Germany's leading communications conglomerates, is driving infrastructure expansion across the country. The latest development sees Vodafone reaching two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network.
In a significant move, Vodafone has launched a new mobile network station in Illesheim, eliminating a dead zone in its mobile broadband coverage. The new antennas in Illesheim support the latest variants of the emergency call technology AML and the disaster warning system Cell Broadcast. This development marks a significant step towards enhancing public safety and communication in the region.
The new mobile network station in Illesheim also enables emergency calls and disaster warnings. AML, the automatic location transmission technology, ensures that emergency services can quickly pinpoint the location of callers dialling "112". Cell Broadcast warns the surrounding population via smartphone about hazardous situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods.
Currently, Vodafone operates 45 mobile network stations in the district, with 41 stations equipped with mobile broadband technology LTE. Two 5G upgrades of the radio sites in the communities of Markt Bibart and Uehlfeld are next on the agenda. By mid-2026, Vodafone plans to realize a total of five more mobile network construction projects in the district, although specific details about these projects are yet to be disclosed.
Vodafone's Chief Technology Officer, Tanja Richter, stated that the mobile network is a piece of quality of life and an important infrastructure factor for the local economy and jobs. The company is also investing heavily in its machine network (Narrowband IoT) for industry and business, which currently operates on more than 97% of Germany's surface area.
With almost 90% of the inhabited areas in the district already capable of 5G thanks to these 5G stations, Vodafone is committed to continuing its mobile data highway expansion through more infrastructure projects. The remaining stations without 5G will be gradually upgraded and converted to 5G sites.
Vodafone Germany serves over 30 million mobile, over 10 million broadband, and around 12 million TV customers. As the largest national subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, one of the world's largest telecommunications conglomerates, Vodafone is dedicated to connecting people, businesses, and communities across Germany.
