Reborn Prince of Persia discovered in The Lost Crown: a Metroidvania that draws from the source of the legend's roots

In a thrilling revival of the beloved Prince of Persia franchise, Ubisoft has released a new game titled "Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown." This action-packed adventure is available on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Amazon Luna.

The Return of a Classic

"The Lost Crown" was released on multiple dates in 2024, with the latest being April 14, 2025. Contrary to some speculation, the game is not explicitly described as a Metroidvania. Instead, it is classified as an action-adventure and platformer game. The game harks back to the series' roots, featuring a distinctive art style and clever 2.5D action.

Key Features

The game combines traditional platforming elements with action-adventure gameplay, likely incorporating environmental puzzles and combat, which are common in the series. It boasts a delightful and visually appealing art style, a central aspect of its appeal. While specific Metroidvania elements are not detailed, the game likely includes exploration, puzzle-solving, and agile combat, typical of the series.

Expanding the Franchise

Ubisoft has also released other titles in the franchise. The "Prince of Persia – New Era Bundle," released on August 20, 2025, focuses on platforming and combat skills to save Persia. Another release, "The Rogue Prince of Persia," is a roguelite game emphasizing exploration, acrobatic combat, and rewriting fate in a shifting kingdom.

The Journey Ahead

In "The Lost Crown," Sargon, a member of the Immortals, embarks on a mission to rescue Ghassan, the queen's son, through the mysterious regions of Mount Qaf. The game's world is designed to open up as the player gains new abilities, offering a vast labyrinth to explore. The game also offers an exploration mode for a complete metroidvania experience, as well as a guided mode for a more linear experience.

The game's narrative is non-linear, and the mission involves acquiring six time powers to manipulate time in order to advance and defeat level bosses. Combat in the game is fast and filled with acrobatic combos using swords that can be enhanced with Athra energy. Special vengeful counterattacks are featured, triggering specific cinematic final blows to enemies.

"The Lost Crown" offers various difficulty levels, ranging from novice to immortal, ensuring a challenge for players of all skill levels. Jordan Mechner, the creator of the original Prince of Persia, has given his blessing to the game, making it a highly appealing bet that innovates from the roots of the franchise to relaunch it. With countless hours of entertainment, this new game promises an unforgettable journey for fans and newcomers alike.
