Regulatory Approval Secured: Bitvavo Obtains MiCA License!
Bitvavo Receives MiCA License and Announces Changes for Users
Bitvavo, one of Europe's largest digital asset platforms, has recently secured a MiCA license from the Dutch financial authority AFM. This license allows Bitvavo to operate cross-border within the European Union, including Germany.
With this development, Bitvavo aims to further strengthen its position as a leading actor among European cryptocurrency exchanges. The MiCAR license will enable the company to offer its services under a uniform, harmonized legal framework across the EU. Countries like Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are also covered by the MiCAR regulation.
Starting September, 1, 2025, the contractual relationship for users of the "Bitvavo powered by Hyphe" platform will be directly with Bitvavo B.V. This transition will be seamless, requiring only acceptance of the new Terms of Service via an in-app pop-up. Existing account data and access will remain unchanged.
Jeetan Patel, Chief Risk Officer of Bitvavo, has stated that receiving the MiCAR license is a significant milestone for the company and its users. He described the collaboration with the Dutch authority as efficient and constructive.
Hyphe Markets GmbH will no longer provide the technical and regulatory framework for Bitvavo users, as Hyphe is withdrawing from the private customer business. The "Buy Bitcoin" and "Buy Wallet" services will remain available to existing customers following the transition on September 1, 2025.
Existing customers will continue to use the Bitvavo platform for buying and managing their cryptocurrency wallets after September 1, 2025. Existing login credentials and the account with Sutor Bank as the banking partner will remain unchanged.
Bitvavo, with over two million users, is the global leader in the Euro spot market. The company's receipt of the MiCAR license marks the end of the transition phase during which Bitvavo operated under the "powered by Hyphe" label in the German market.
In conclusion, Bitvavo's MiCAR license will allow it to operate within the EU under a harmonized legal framework, strengthening its position as a leading European cryptocurrency exchange. Users are advised to log in and accept the new terms and conditions from September 1, 2025, to maintain unrestricted access.
