Renault's Megane model will receive an RS flagship variant and a significant transformation into a high-performance hatchback.

The French automaker Renault has announced plans to reposition its Megane E-Tech model as a hot news or a hot car, aiming to revive its appeal and reverse a decline in sales. The company's brand CEO, Fabrice Cambolive, made the announcement, but provided no further details about the new performance news.

The current Megane E-Tech is an electric vehicle offered exclusively with a single electric motor and a top output of 215bhp. However, the new Megane E-Tech's power output is expected to be more feasible, as suggested by its Ampr Medium platform-mates. The top version of the Renault Megane E-Tech is expected to have a performance level around 218 horsepower.

Renault has recently experimented with sportier news, including the £140,000 5 Turbo 3E. Yet, the new Megane E-Tech will not receive a lofty power output like the 5 Turbo 3E. Instead, the automaker is exploring the possibility of a new performance news, which is expected to be linked to the performance version of the Megane E-Tech, set to launch next year.

The fourth-generation Megane RS hot news went out of production in 2023. With its absence, the Megane E-Tech seems poised to fill the void in Renault's performance lineup. Although the new Alpine A390, with its bespoke 464bhp tri-motor powertrain, is unlikely to be transferred to the Megane E-Tech, the Nissan Ariya Nismo's 429bhp dual-motor set-up could be considered.

The repositioning of the Megane E-Tech as a hot news is an attempt to appeal to a wider audience and potentially boost sales, which have been declining over the past 18 months. Renault will show the "first proposals" for the new performance news within 12 months, offering enthusiasts a glimpse into the future of Renault's performance electric vehicles.
