Restored Original Manufacturer Backing for Timeless Toyota 4A-GE Engine
Toyota Gazoo Racing has announced plans to reproduce parts for the legendary 16-valve 4A-GE engine, which powered the iconic Toyota Corolla AE86. The reproduced parts will be manufactured by Autohaus Reitner in Waldneukirchen, with availability expected from July 28, 2025.
The reproduced engine will feature a number of improvements, including a more rigid cast iron engine block, thicker walls for the intake and exhaust ports, and modern honing processes to enhance cylinder bore precision. The cylinder head will also be remanufactured, with the intake ports coated to reduce surface irregularities.
To facilitate easier installation in front-drive applications, the reproduced engine will include additional bosses and ribs. The crank cap structure has also been revised in the reproduced engine block. These changes are all part of the Toyota GR Heritage project, which aims to preserve and celebrate the brand's rich racing history.
The decision to reproduce the 4A-GE engine is a welcome move for enthusiasts, who have long relied on the aftermarket scene in Japan for spare parts. The reproduced parts will benefit from modern manufacturing technology, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.
The reproduced engine is set to join Toyota's famous 4A-GE four-cylinder engine in powering the AE86, helping to keep the car an enthusiast favourite for decades to come. With the reproduced parts due to become available soon, fans of the iconic Corolla AE86 can look forward to keeping their beloved cars running for years to come.
