The music industry is witnessing a fascinating resurgence, with not just vinyl records, but also Compact Discs (CDs) making a comeback. This revival is evidenced by the increasing demand for record players, including all-in-one turntables, and the dusting off of old CD collections from attics and under beds.

One company at the forefront of this resurgence is Philips, the same company that brought the CD to the world in the 1980s. They have now unveiled the Fidelio FT1, a two-in-one turntable that can play both vinyl records and CDs.

The Fidelio FT1, set to hit the market in the first quarter of 2026, is a versatile piece of equipment. It can play CDs, CD-Rs, and vinyl records, making it an ideal choice for music enthusiasts who appreciate the convenience of digital music and the warmth of vinyl.

The Fidelio FT1 comes with Bluetooth output for wireless pairing with compatible speakers. This feature allows users to enjoy their music in various settings, from a quiet study to a lively party.

Philips has paired the Fidelio FT1 with the Fidelio FA3 speakers at a demo. These speakers, aimed at delivering solid performance at a mid-level price, are sold separately. Reports suggest that many retailers will offer a 'soft bundle' deal for the Fidelio FT1 and Fidelio FA3 speakers, making it easier for consumers to invest in a complete sound system.

The Fidelio FA3 speakers are expected to provide good value for a solid sounding system. They can be connected via RCA to a conventional hi-fi setup, offering flexibility for those who already have an existing sound system.

The resurgence of vinyl records indicates a return of retro fashion in the modern era. This trend is not lost on Philips, who is also set to release reimagined versions of their Moving Sound range in 2026.

Last year, the vinyl format broke a 40-year record for physical sales, signalling a growing interest in physical music formats. With the introduction of the Fidelio FT1, Philips is tapping into this trend, providing music lovers with a modern take on a classic format.

The target price for the Fidelio FT1 is €299 (£259 / $349 by direct conversion), and €399 (£349 / $479) for the Fidelio FA3 speaker pair. This price point makes these products accessible to a wide range of music enthusiasts, ensuring that the joy of listening to music on physical formats remains within reach.

As we move towards 2025 and beyond, it seems that the resurgence of vinyl records and CDs is here to stay. With products like the Fidelio FT1, Philips is helping to preserve the charm of physical music formats while embracing the convenience of modern technology.
