The compact car model, Peugeot 208, is about to bid adieu before the 2027 model change. With a nod to the past, Peugeot is brewing a GTi version derived from the electric 208, set to be unveiled before you can say "rev up!"
The GTi badge has a rich legacy. Peugeot offered the 205 series in a variety of GTi versions for over a decade back in the 80s and 90s, and these hot hatches still command respect in today's performance scene. The last GTi from Peugeot was available between 2013 and 2018 in the first generation of the 208.
A Green Edition Comes to the Race Circuit
Unlike the 205 GTi, limited to three doors, the new 208 GTi will be available in the sportier five-door variant. The newcomer promises an adrenaline rush with its modified visage that pays homage to the historic model while keeping it fresh. The wider stance (an additional 6 cm at the front axle and 3 cm at the rear axle), lowered body by 3 cm, and attention-grabbing 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires help accentuate its sporty claims.
At the rear, the GTi sports a sleek black diffuser with integrated LED rear fog light, offering a striking contrast to the otherwise eye-catching red paint job.
Technically, the E-208 GTi is modeled after the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, hailing from the same Stellantis group. The Peugeot counterpart dishes out 207 kW/280 PS and a hefty 345 Nm of torque, all while keeping the power distribution to the front wheels. A limited-slip differential enhances cornering stability and agility.
The E-208 GTi has electronically capped its speed at 180 km/h, but it can make the dash to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds.

The E-208 GTi's pricing hasn't been officially announced yet, but it should be on dealership floors later this year, priced slightly lower than the technologically related Abarth, currently retailing for approximately €49,000.
