Saab Leads NATO's AUWB-MN Program, Kicking Off Underwater Operations Revolution
Saab, spearheading the MANGROVE consortium, initiated NATO's Allied Underwater Battlespace Mission Network (AUWB-MN) project on 1 September 2025. This ambitious project aims to integrate crewed and uncrewed maritime systems across NATO, setting a new standard for underwater operations.
The consortium's main task is to design a Reference Architecture and a Test and Reference Environment. This will enable secure, rapid information exchange and combined operations in the underwater battlespace. The MANGROVE consortium consists of Saab, CETENA, IDS, FlySight, GraalTech, Miraya, Saab UK, BlueBear, S2IX, and the University of Plymouth.
Backed by 12 sponsoring nations, including the UK, Sweden, the US, and Germany, the project is part of NATO's Digital Ocean and Antisubmarine Warfare Barrier Smart Defence Initiative. Saab's appointment as the lead highlights its expertise in underwater systems and network integration.
The AUWB-MN project, led by Saab and supported by a diverse consortium and 12 nations, represents a significant stride towards enhanced NATO underwater capabilities. The project's outcome is anticipated to set a new standard for secure and efficient underwater operations.
