Safaricom's Spark Accelerator Programme Returns for a Second Phase
Safaricom, M-PESA Africa, and Sumitomo Corporation have announced the launch of the second phase of the Spark Accelerator program, aimed at supporting innovative startups in Kenya. This programme offers mentorship, funding, and networking opportunities to help startups scale their businesses.
The Spark Accelerator Programme is particularly interested in startups developing solutions in sectors like embedded financial services, content, and related industries. To be eligible, startups should be at an early to growth stage, demonstrating a scalable business model. They must also operate within key sectors of innovation relevant to Safaricom’s strategic interests.
Applicants should have an existing product, be post-revenue, and exhibit strong growth potential. Startups can tap into Safaricom's customer base of over 30 million, providing a significant market opportunity.
Participating startups can expect to receive resources, mentorship, access to markets, and funding. This includes intensive mentorship and business guidance from industry experts and Safaricom partners, networking and partnership opportunities, opportunities to pilot innovations with Safaricom’s customer base, and exposure to potential investors and further growth capital.
In addition, startups will have access to product and technology support such as Daraja and M-PESA Open APIs. AWS Activate credits of up to $25,000 are also provided to startups.
Teams with diverse leadership, particularly those with female founders or leaders, are strongly encouraged to apply. The programme is open for applications from startups in Kenya, with the application period running from April 1 to May 15, 2025.
