SAIC's Pocco Duoduo: A Powerful, Spacious Compact EV Launching August 6
SAIC's Pocco Duoduo, a compact, 5-door, 4-seater, is set to hit the market on August 6, 2023, with pre-sales kicking off. This new offering from SAIC, known for its small EVs, promises impressive power and space, undercutting the competition in price.
The Duoduo boasts a spacious interior with 987L of rear storage. It's available in two battery capacities: 10.3kWh and 14.5kWh, offering NEDC ranges of 128km and 170km respectively. Its 29kW motor delivers a maximum torque of 110 N/m. Despite its power, it undercuts the Hongguang Mini EV in both performance and space.
SAIC's strategy with small EVs like the Duoduo is to achieve profitability through mass production and high sales volumes. For instance, the Wuling Mini EV sold 31,371 units in China in August 2025 alone. This approach allows SAIC to maintain a strong position in China's rapidly growing EV sector, even with low net profit per vehicle. Meanwhile, Letin, another Chinese car company, launched the 'Letin Mango Hunan TV co-branded model' with dimensions of 3620mm x 1610mm x 1525mm and a wheelbase of 2,440mm, priced between RMB 39,800 and 54,900 yuan.
The Pocco Duoduo starts at an affordable RMB 28,800, with the premium version priced at RMB 39,800. Its combination of power, space, and price make it a compelling option in the Chinese EV market. With SAIC's proven strategy of mass production and high sales volumes, the Duoduo is poised to make a significant impact.
