Samsung's TriFold smartphone might buck trends, with whispers of a US launch anticipated this autumn
Samsung is set to unveil its latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, at an upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event rumoured to take place in South Korea on September 29. The event is also expected to see the launch of Samsung's first-ever XR headset, Project Moohan, and its first pair of AI glasses, the Galaxy Glasses.
The Galaxy Z TriFold, with its unique U-shaped fold and titanium frame, is expected to come with high-end specs, including 16GB of RAM and a Snapdragon chipset. Animation videos of the device show a central cover display flanked by two panels that fold around it. The TriFold is also said to allow users to shoot selfies with the main rear cameras.
However, there seems to be some conflicting information about the launch date of the Galaxy Z TriFold. While some sources suggest it will be at the end of this month, others speculate that it won't arrive until 2026. Samsung has not yet confirmed any official launch date for the TriFold.
As for the device's availability, Samsung may be switching its traditional launch pattern by simultaneously launching the TriFold in both South Korea and the U.S. This move, according to a report by The Elec, is due to Samsung's strategy to test the market with a limited production of only 100,000 units and regional availability constraints, suggesting a targeted initial release in these key markets.
In the past, Samsung has introduced new devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 special edition in limited markets before a wider release. However, no prior information about the TriFold's release in other regions besides the U.S. and South Korea has been provided.
It's also worth noting that no official renders of the Galaxy Z TriFold have been released yet. Despite this, the anticipation for the device remains high, with many tech enthusiasts eagerly waiting for more details about the TriFold's innovative design and features.
