Spotify Launches 'Exclude' Feature to Fine-Tune Music Recommendations

Spotify is expanding user control over its recommendation engine with the global launch of the 'Exclude' feature. This tool, available on web, desktop, and mobile for both free and Premium users, allows individuals to fine-tune their musical journey by excluding specific songs from their Taste Profile.

The Exclude feature is Spotify's latest effort to balance algorithmic personalization with user agency. It acknowledges that algorithms, while helpful, aren't flawless proxies for human preferences. By excluding songs, users can reduce their influence on future recommendations and prevent them from appearing in Spotify Wrapped, the annual personalized music review.

Spotify has previously introduced tools like Enhance and Blend to empower users. The Exclude feature builds on this commitment, offering finer-grained control over recommendations. Its rollout coincides with the upcoming Wrapped season, giving users the opportunity to clean up their feeds before the annual review.

The Exclude feature is now available worldwide, marking another step in Spotify's ongoing effort to maintain user trust and engagement through transparency and control. By allowing users to exclude specific songs, Spotify ensures that recommendations remain tailored to individual tastes while providing users with the power to shape their musical experience.
