Staggering photos bagged awards living only through an iPhone's lens.

In the 18th annual iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS), the best smartphones for capturing stunning images were once again showcased. This year, the top-performing models were the iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and even the older iPhone XS.

Jarod Peraza, the Grand Prize winner and Photographer of the Year, used the iPhone 16 Pro Max to capture his nighttime scene "Viajero Nocturno" in Villa de Leyva, Colombia. This image took home the top honour.

Meanwhile, Carol Addassi, who secured first place with her striking black-and-white night shot "Passage" of Central Park in New York City, used an iPhone XS. Thiago Bernardes de Souza, who placed second with his playful "Moto Cães" photo of dogs on a motorbike, also relied on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

These results demonstrate that while the latest iPhone Pro Max models offer advanced capabilities, excellent iPhone photography is possible even on older devices like the iPhone XS. This underscores the power of skilled photographers combined with Apple's camera technology.

Other notable mentions include Martha Nance, who used an iPhone for her soft riverside photo titled "Foggy Morning on the Corrotoman," which placed third.

The 2025 IPPAWARDS honoured winners across 14 categories, but further details about these categories were not provided.

In addition to these awards, there are numerous resources available for photography enthusiasts, such as the best lenses for iPhones, competitions to enter, photography awards and contests.

First place in the Category: People was awarded to Karolina Zielony for Vibrant Colours of The Neighbourhood, captured on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Jayne Parker won first place in the Category: Animals with her photograph Close Encounter, shot on an iPhone 15 Pro. Adrian Beasley, on the other hand, secured first place in the Category: Cityscape with The Timeless Tyne Bridge, captured on an iPhone 13 Pro.
