Strengthening Military Capabilities Remains Steadfast to Regional Tranquility: Findings Indicate
The Indian government has given the green light to a $2.3 billion (₹20,000 crore) initiative, aimed at developing six advanced Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) known as Netra Mk2. This project will convert six aging Airbus A321 aircraft into military-grade surveillance platforms, equipped with indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, advanced sensor fusion, AI-driven analytics, electronic support, and secure communications.
This strategic move is a significant leap for India’s defense self-reliance and technological advancement, as it emphasizes indigenous research, development, and manufacturing of cutting-edge radar and mission systems. The new AWACS will significantly enhance India’s aerial surveillance, reconnaissance, and situational awareness capabilities over vast airspace, with improved detection accuracy, earlier threat warnings, and better command and control of air operations.
