T-Mobile Hikes Late Fee to $10 Under New CEO

T-Mobile is set to increase its late fee, from $7 to $10, starting November 1, 2023. This move comes as new CEO Srini Gopalan takes the helm, replacing Mike Sievert. The change has sparked concern among customers who feel it disproportionately affects vulnerable individuals.

The increase marks the second time T-Mobile has raised its late fee in two years. The average U.S. cell phone bill now stands at $144 a month, according to JD Power. However, customers in Maryland, New York, and Washington D.C. may be spared the full brunt of the increase due to state laws capping late fees.

Customers can avoid the late fee by paying their bills on time or by setting up AutoPay. The new late fee will be 5 percent of the past due balance if it exceeds $10.

T-Mobile's late fee hike takes effect under new CEO Srini Gopalan's leadership. While some customers express concern, others can mitigate the fee by timely payments or AutoPay. State-specific regulations may offer some relief to customers in Maryland, New York, and Washington D.C.
