**Tesla Unveils V4 Superchargers in China, Boosting Charging Speeds**
Tesla has rolled out its latest V4 Superchargers in several provinces across China, including Shanghai, Chongqing, Gansu, and Zhejiang. The new charging stations, which were first deployed in March 2023, aim to significantly enhance charging speed, efficiency, and user experience.
The V4 Superchargers introduce several key features and improvements. For instance, they boast a peak output of 350 kW per stall, thanks to new silicon carbide components that improve efficiency and thermal management. This output is lower than the 500 kW peak planned for the Cybertruck with upcoming V4 supercharger cabinets but still a significant improvement over earlier versions.
One of the most notable improvements is the increase in charging speed. For vehicles like the Cybertruck, Tesla will increase the maximum charging speed to up to 500 kW with the rollout of new V4 supercharger cabinets, representing a 53% increase compared to the previous 325 kW limit.
V4 technology also dynamically reallocates power, boosting output on one stall when adjacent stalls are idle, optimising overall charging availability and reducing wait times. Smart cooling loops in cables and connectors enable sustained high-power sessions without overheating, allowing longer fast-charging periods.
The system also incorporates bi-directional communication with local substations to balance grid load, improving stability during peak demand periods. V4 Superchargers are designed for a more user-friendly experience and offer improved accessibility for non-Tesla vehicles.
In China, the V4 Superchargers have multiple safety and durability upgrades, including a rain and waterproof design. The ongoing expansion of Tesla's Supercharging network in China is considered one of its strongest competitive advantages.
Tesla has not disclosed the exact power output for the Chinese market, but V4 Superchargers in Europe are rated for up to 350kW, suggesting similar performance in China. The charging cables for the V4 Superchargers in China are up to 3 meters long.
The announcement of the V4 Superchargers was made via an image posted on Tesla's official Weibo account. Tesla's Supercharging network is being opened up to non-Tesla EVs, aligning with industry shifts encouraged by governments and regulators worldwide.
