Tesla, led by Elon Musk, to inaugurate its first charging station in India, unveiling details about charging speeds and costs
Tesla Opens First Supercharger Station in Mumbai, India
In a significant move for the electric vehicle (EV) industry in India, Tesla has opened its first Supercharger station in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on August 5, 2025.
The new station, located at the first Tesla experience centre in India, features four V4 Superchargers providing DC fast charging at speeds up to 250 kW. These Superchargers can add up to 267 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes for a Model Y, making them ideal for quick top-ups suitable for city driving or travel to major landmarks such as the airport.
Besides the Superchargers, the station also offers four Destination Chargers delivering slower AC charging at 11 kW. These chargers are priced at Rs 14 per kWh and are meant for longer stays like dining or shopping.
Tesla customers in Mumbai will now have the benefit of both high-speed and moderate-speed charging options, with the charging speeds and prices clearly defined for efficient EV use in the city. The Superchargers will be available at a rate of Rs 24 per kWh, while the Destination Chargers will be priced at Rs 14 per kWh.
This Supercharger station is the first of eight announced during Tesla's Mumbai launch last month. More Supercharging sites are planned across India to make cross-country travel convenient for Tesla owners. The company stated that these Supercharging sites are planned to provide the optimal cross-country experience.
Tesla entered the Indian market in July with the launch of its Model Y, priced from Rs 59.89 lakh. As part of its customer offer, Tesla will provide a free wall connector with every new car purchase, to be installed at the buyer's residence.
Elon Musk, the world's richest man, recently launched Tesla's first showroom in India in Mumbai. The first Tesla experience centre in India is located at Maker Maxity Commercial Complex in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. The charging station will have four V4 supercharging stalls for DC charging and four destination charging stalls for AC charging.
