Tesla Opens New Supercharger Station in Downtown Vancouver

Tesla has expanded its charging network in Vancouver with the opening of a new Supercharger station in the heart of the city. The station, located at 535 Smithe Street, was first revealed in an update to Tesla's Supercharger map in November 2024.

However, the exact location of the new Supercharger station on the map is not specified, and it went unnoticed during construction as it is situated inside a parking garage. The new facility spans across two levels, Level 2 and Level 3, and consists of a 12-stall facility.

Despite being hidden in a parking garage, the new Supercharger station is a significant addition to Tesla's downtown Vancouver charging network. Other Supercharger sites in the downtown core include one in Pacific Center (V3) and on Burrard St (V2), both of which are also in pay parking garages.

Interestingly, it appears that charging without paying extra is possible at the new Smithe Street location. While the mobile app and in-car navigation indicate that the chargers are in a paid parking facility, no requirement to pay to enter the parking garage if you stay with your car while it is plugged in has been reported.

For non-Tesla EV owners, who can access the station with NACS adapters, the charging rates are slightly higher, ranging between $0.30 and $0.38 per kWh. Tesla drivers, on the other hand, pay a fixed rate at the moment they begin charging, with the rates at the Smithe Street location ranging from $0.23 to $0.29 per kWh.

As for the specifics of the new Supercharger station, such as its exact location, number of stalls, and parking details, no direct information is available in the current information. For the most current update, monitoring Tesla's official communication or local news near Vancouver is recommended.

It's worth noting that Tesla has already established a significant presence in the Vancouver area with its recently opened 60000-square-foot Service & Delivery Center in Port Coquitlam and the construction of an even larger Service Center just outside downtown Vancouver. Despite these developments, a new Supercharger station in downtown Vancouver itself has not been detailed yet.

In summary, the new Supercharger station at 535 Smithe Street is a welcome addition to Tesla's charging network in downtown Vancouver. While details about the station's specifics are scarce, it offers a convenient charging solution for Tesla and non-Tesla EV owners in the heart of the city.
