New Six-Seat Tesla Model Y L Offers Extended Range and Seating

Tesla has announced the launch of a new variant of its popular Model Y, the six-seat Model Y L. This new model promises an estimated range of approximately 600 km and a battery pack capacity in the low to mid 80 kWh range.

The Model Y L utilizes a larger battery pack, with some sources reporting an 82 kWh gross capacity, while others mention an 85.5 kWh battery pack. This increase in battery capacity compensates for the vehicle's larger size and weight, helping maintain comparable driving range despite the added mass.

The increased battery capacity is provided by ternary lithium-ion batteries supplied by South Korea's LG Energy Solution, similar to the batteries used in the standard Model Y and the new Model 3 variant.

The Model Y L joins the five-seat Model Y, which is currently available in two variants in China. The starting price for the six-seat Model Y L has not been announced yet, but it is expected to launch in China this fall.

Meanwhile, the entry-level rear-wheel-drive version of the five-seat Model Y in China starts at RMB 263,500, while the long-range all-wheel-drive version costs RMB 313,500.

In addition to the Model Y L, Tesla's Model 3 is also available in China in three variants, with starting prices ranging from RMB 235,500 to RMB 339,500. The new Model 3 variant is a single-motor model with a peak motor power of 225 kW.

Both the Model 3 and Model Y L are eligible for vehicle purchase tax exemptions in China's latest batch of new energy vehicle models. The Model 3 variant (TSL7000BEVBR1) has a curb weight of 1,760 kg and a CLTC range of either 800 km or 830 km.

The entry-level rear-wheel drive version of the Model 3 is equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from CATL, while the other two variants use ternary batteries from LG Energy Solution.

The Model Y L, with vehicle model number TSL6500BEVBA0, is equipped with an 82.0-kWh battery pack and has a range of 751 kilometers.

It remains to be seen how the new six-seat Model Y L will affect competitors in the Chinese market, such as Nio and Li Auto.
