Singapore-Based Carbon Removal Company Equatic Secures US$11.6 Million Series A Funding

Equatic, a carbon removal company that combines carbon dioxide removal and green hydrogen production, has secured a significant US$11.6 million Series A funding round. This investment will accelerate the engineering scale-up, commercialization, manufacturing, and technological development of Equatic's patented seawater electrolysis technology.

The key investors involved in this round include Temasek Trust’s Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H), which led the round, and Kibo Invest, a Singapore-based private investment office focused on climate technology, which co-led the round. Other investors include Stacey Nicholas, the Aga Khan Foundation, Adam McKay, and Lee Cooper.

Equatic's technology has been validated at pilot plants in Los Angeles and Singapore. Notable for its ability to accelerate ocean carbon absorption about 99,000 times faster than the open ocean while producing green hydrogen that can offset energy use for CDR or be sold to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, the company adheres to international standards (ISO-14064) and registry verification, providing credibility for its carbon credits.

Equatic sells high-integrity carbon removal credits and green hydrogen to global buyers. The company activates and amplifies the ocean's inherent ability to absorb and store massive amounts of carbon dioxide, making it a promising solution for tackling climate change.

C3H is a catalytic vehicle by Temasek Trust that provides capital to innovative, early-stage companies in Climate, Health, and their intersection. The investment in Equatic aligns with C3H's mandate to support promising climate mitigation solutions.

Ryan Tan, Head of C3H, stated that Equatic's technology aligns with C3H's mandate to support promising climate mitigation solutions. Gaurav N. Sant, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Equatic, expressed gratitude to all investors and partners for their support and stated that the financing catalyzes Equatic's mission to deliver cost-effective and durable carbon removal at scale.

The Series A financing reflects rising momentum for scalable climate mitigation solutions, fuelled by converging factors like science-driven innovation and public-private-philanthropic partnerships. This investment is a pivotal step enabling Equatic to scale up and commercialize a dual-impact climate technology that advances carbon removal and green hydrogen production simultaneously, with backing from prominent impact-focused investors.

James Marshall, CEO of Kibo Invest, expressed excitement about partnering with C3H and Equatic to bring the breakthrough technology to commercial scale. The Series A financing will support the engineering of Equatic's first 100-kilotonne CDR commercial facility, as well as further commercialization, manufacturing, and technological development.

In September 2024, Equatic was named a finalist for The Earthshot Prize, a global challenge that spotlights and supports innovative solutions to repair the planet. Equatic's journey has been shaped by the support of multiple mission-aligned partners, including Temasek Foundation, which awarded the company S$1 million in catalytic funding in 2021.

Kibo Invest is an investment office focused on driving innovation and sustainable returns. C3H focuses on companies that deliver tangible impact through bold, scalable solutions. This investment in Equatic marks the next chapter in the company's growth, building on its longstanding partnership with the Temasek Trust ecosystem.
