Turing Trust Empowers 216 Students, Saves a Year's Home Energy
The Turing Trust, named after legendary computer scientist Alan Turing, has received a generous donation of IT equipment from the Scottish Episcopal Church. This gift aligns with Turing's vision of using technology to tackle significant challenges and assist others. The donation, made on April 11, will support 216 students and contribute to substantial environmental savings.
The Alan Turing Institute, in April 2023, handed over IT devices to the Turing Trust. This donation is part of the trust's ongoing mission to empower disadvantaged communities in Africa, Asia, and the UK. The refurbished equipment, installed with educational software, will benefit 216 students, providing them with essential IT skills.
In addition to its social impact, the donation also has a significant environmental benefit. The embodied energy savings are equivalent to powering one UK home for an entire year, offsetting a total of three tons of CO2 emissions. This is a testament to the trust's commitment to sustainability alongside its educational goals.
The Turing Trust, since its inception 15 years ago, has enabled access to computers for over 252,000 students worldwide. The recent donation from the Scottish Episcopal Church continues this legacy, providing opportunities for 216 more students while also making a substantial contribution to reducing carbon emissions. The trust remains dedicated to its mission of using technology to empower communities and protect the environment.
