Two Men Found Dead in JetBlue Plane's Landing Gear
Two unidentified men were found dead in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue Airbus A320 after it landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The gruesome discovery was made during a routine maintenance check on Monday evening. The flight, number 1801, had departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York and arrived in Fort Lauderdale at 11:10 PM local time.
The bodies were severely decomposed, suggesting the men may have died during the flight. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is working closely with JetBlue, the airports, and law enforcement agencies to investigate the case. The identities of the two men remain unknown, and how they boarded the aircraft is under investigation. The plane had been in operation multiple times on the day of the incident, including on routes from Kingston (Jamaica) and Salt Lake City. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has previously noted that the landing gear compartment of aircraft is a frequent hiding place for stowaways. Autopsies by the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the exact causes of death.
The investigation into the deaths of the two men is ongoing. Multiple agencies, including the TSA, FAA, Broward County Sheriff's Office, and potentially the FBI or NTSB, are involved. JetBlue has not commented on the incident yet. The discovery serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by those who attempt to stow away on aircraft.
