In a surprising move, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 4 series will receive the highly anticipated One UI 8 Watch update, marking the fourth major OS update for the four-year-old watches since their launch. The announcement was made at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025.

The One UI 8 Watch update, based on Wear OS 6, brings a host of new features and improvements to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. One of the most notable changes is a visual overhaul, with significant UI redesigns and new tiles aimed at providing a more streamlined user experience. Although some users initially expressed reservations about the new design, Samsung is expected to refine it during the beta phase.

Another key addition is the integration of Samsung's AI technology, which will allow for enhanced voice interactions and smart features on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The update also introduces new health-related functions, including an Antioxidant Index, Vascular Load, Bedtime Guidance, and Running Coach. However, it is worth noting that some of these features may not be available on the older Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 hardware.

The One UI 8 Watch beta program started in late June 2025 and is currently available for the Galaxy Watch 5 and newer models in South Korea and the USA. The stable update for the Galaxy Watch 4 series is expected later this year, although an exact timeline has not been detailed yet.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series, which was launched with Wear OS 3 and One UI Watch 3, is powered by the 4nm Exynos W920. Despite being nearly four years old, the Galaxy Watch 4 series continues to receive software support from Samsung, reinforcing their commitment to their products beyond the original promise.

In summary, the Galaxy Watch 4 series will receive the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch update, bringing design changes, new health features, and AI enhancements. This update not only extends the life of the Galaxy Watch 4 series but also reinforces Samsung’s dedication to providing regular updates for their smartwatch lineup.
