Unveil: Investigating the sought-after details

The Chinese automotive giant, BYD, is set to launch the Seal 05 DM-i, a compact plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), in Thailand. This announcement follows the successful operation of the BYD Rayong factory, which was inaugurated a year ago and has already delivered 90,000 new energy vehicles (NEV).

The BYD Rayong factory, an investment of approximately 35 billion Thai Baht (1 billion USD), encompasses the four main processes of vehicle manufacturing and a parts factory. The factory is set to start delivering the locally assembled BYD Seal 05 DM-i, also known as the Chaser 05 or Destroyer 05 in China, in early August.

The Seal 05 DM-i is powered by a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum power output of 99 hp (74 kW) and a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 161 hp (120 kW). This hybrid system, known as the BYD DM-i 5.0 PHEV, offers two battery options: a 7.68 kWh battery providing about 43 km of pure electric range, and a larger 15.898 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering approximately 90 km of electric range on a full charge.

This PHEV vehicle boasts a comprehensive range of up to 2000 km on a full tank and charge, and a fuel consumption as low as 2.95L/100km. The Seal 05 DM-i, with its dimensions of 4780 mm in length, 1837 mm in width, and 1515 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2718 mm, follows BYD's Ocean design philosophy.

During a ceremony held on July 8 for the "90,000th NEV Delivery and One-Year Anniversary of Thailand Factory Operation", Ms. Nualphan Lamsam, President of the Football Association of Thailand, received the 90,000th NEV, a Denza D9.

While the exact price of the Seal 05 DM-i in Thailand is yet to be announced, the BYD Sea Lion 05 DM-i (a close model variant) has a listed MSRP of approximately 122,800 (currency unspecified, likely USD or CNY depending on market). The actual price in Thailand might vary due to taxes and local fees.

The Seal 05 DM-i represents a significant step forward for Thailand's automotive industry, as it is the country's first B-segment PHEV. By offering this technologically advanced compact sedan with strong hybrid range capabilities, efficient fuel consumption, and modern design, BYD is positioning itself competitively in the PHEV segment for markets including Thailand. For exact Thai pricing, contacting local BYD dealers would provide the most accurate information.
