Unveiling the motives behind Revolut's mobile service offerings.

Revolut Expands into Mobile Services with Partnership

Revolut, the British fintech company, is making a significant move into the mobile sector. The company, which currently boasts around 50 million customers, has announced plans to offer a full-fledged mobile service, aiming to compete with Asian super apps like WeChat and Alipay.

According to Hadi Nasrallah, the responsible general manager, this mobile tariff is a significant effort for Revolut. The company is partnering with Lyca Mobile as its telecom network provider, a move that integrates Revolut’s payment infrastructure into Lyca's telecom services.

This partnership will enable Revolut to expand its product suite in the U.S. market with mobile and financial services combined. The mobile offering is a critical part of Revolut's broader "super app" strategy, aiming to combine banking, payments, telecom, and lifestyle features into one platform.

The mobile tariff details reveal that Revolut offers eSIM data plans starting from as low as 5 Polish złoty (about $1.2 USD) for regional and global plans. These plans can be managed entirely via the Revolut app, with users able to purchase, install, and top up these plans on-demand. The plans cover over 100 countries, including dedicated regional plans for Europe and the USA.

The success of Revolut's eSIM product has proven that mobile offerings are ripe for disruption. Fintechs are increasingly moving into the mobile sector, blurring the traditional boundaries between telecoms and savings banks.

Revolut's mobile offering is designed to deepen customer engagement and accelerate its transformation into a comprehensive digital financial and lifestyle platform. Customers can earn Revpoints every time they pay with the Revolut card, and the mobile service will also enable customers to pay for hotels and vacation accommodations with Revpoints.

However, the quality of the Revolut mobile tariff is yet to be determined, and the network provider for Revolut's mobile service is currently unknown. The initial monthly cost of the Revolut mobile contract is 12.50 euros.

This move aligns with Revolut’s strategic aim to become a “banktech” platform offering credit, lending, payments, and wealth management, supported by robust regulatory frameworks, including ongoing licensing efforts in Israel and India.
