Dead by Daylight's Walking Dead Crossover and 2v8 Mode Return

Prepare for a thrilling journey as Dead by Daylight, the popular multiplayer horror game, unveils its exciting lineup for 2025. The upcoming updates are packed with new content, gameplay changes, and a much-anticipated return of the 2v8 mode.

New Characters and Content

The latest major update, released in July 2025, introduces two new Survivors from The Walking Dead – Rick Grimes and Michonne. The dynamic duo comes as a pair, boasting design synergy that makes it best not to separate them. As of now, no new Killers have been announced for 2025 or beyond, including with the reintroduction of the 2v8 mode in August 2025.

Killer Updates

The Executioner (also known as Pyramid Head) is the most notable updated Killer. His power abilities, such as Punishment of the Damned and Rites of Judgement, have seen increased range and duration. Reworked add-ons diversify gameplay beyond just increasing power range, with adjustments to spread and effects on misses. New quality-of-life features, like input buffering for certain power actions, have also been added. Survivors rescued from his cages now gain temporary Haste and Endurance effects. The Clown also received adjustments, mainly changing his bottle reload mechanics and effects of his yellow and purple bottles to balance gameplay.

Gameplay and Modes

The classic 2 Killers vs. 8 Survivors (2v8) mode returns on August 19, 2025, though without new Killers in that mode. There will be three newly added maps and improvements to Killer gameplay experiences in this mode. A new survivor item, the Fog Vial, has been introduced, bringing fresh utility options to Survivors.

The Walking Dead Crossover

The Walking Dead marks the next licensed crossover for Dead by Daylight, releasing on July 29, 2025. Michonne and Rick Grimes join the game as Survivors, each with unique perks to aid their fellow players. Michonne's perk 'Teamwork: Throw Down' gives her a reason to go for stuns and blinds as nearby injured players receive an Endurance buff and extra vision on the Killer's location when she succeeds. Rick Grimes' perk 'Teamwork: Toughen Up' keeps him from grunting and groaning around a stunned or blinded Killer.

Forthcoming Updates

Two more licensed characters are planned to be introduced in November to close out 2025's roster additions. The September Killer's identity is not yet revealed, but theories suggest it could be the shapeshifting Jorōgumo. In November 2025, one Killer and two Survivors (Licensed) will be introduced. On June 17, 2025, FNAF (Killer: Animatronic, Map: Security Room) will be introduced. Dead by Daylight Year 10 began in June 2025 and ends in May 2026. On April 2, 2025, Tokyo Ghoul (Killer: The Ghoul) will be introduced.

In summary, the Dead by Daylight updates for 2025 include the addition of Rick Grimes and Michonne from The Walking Dead, various Killer updates, the return of the 2v8 mode, and new survivor items. The upcoming September and November updates promise more exciting content and collaborations with popular franchises.
