Update to Google Home App Includes Automation Editor Feature, Amidst Device Malfunctions
Google has recently unveiled a new automation editor for its Google Home app, aiming to simplify the process of creating personalised automations. The editor, currently in Public Preview, is designed to make it easier for users to automate their smart home devices.
Upon opening the editor, users can add a name and optional description before diving into the creation process. The editor is divided into three sections: Starter, Conditions, and Actions.
In the Starter section, users can select the main trigger for their automation. The Actions section, on the other hand, offers a variety of options such as broadcast, notify, time delay, and Ask Google. The Conditions section, although optional, appears to be crucial for selecting specific time, day of the week, and presence.
The redesigned editor allows for easier management, enabling users to swipe to delete different sections or activate and deactivate the automation. Google is actively working to move all existing features to this new editor.
However, it seems that not all issues have been addressed. Many users have reported strange glitches with Google Home, such as misunderstood questions, delayed responses, and ignoring commands. A lawsuit has been rumoured due to these issues, but no official announcement has been made as of yet.
Google's commitment to improving user experience is evident in this new automation editor. Users can access the editor by navigating to the Automations tab and selecting 'create' to start making an automation. Currently, the new Google Home automations editor is available for US-based Android users.
While Google continues to persevere in other areas, the new automation editor is a significant step forward in streamlining the automation creation process and improving flexibility for users. It remains to be seen how Google will address the ongoing issues with Google Home and whether the editor will be expanded to other regions and platforms in the future.
