The Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Clara BW have sparks flying thanks to new FCC applications submitted by Netronix—Kobo's trusted OEM partner—on June 16th. These newbies share the same model numbers as their predecessors, except for a 'B' at the end, hinting at a beefed-up spec sheet.
These bad boys first hit the scene at the start of 2024, which was a bountiful year for processors, batteries, and e-paper screens. We've moved on since then, and those sweet components are probably hard to come by. So, guess what? The new Clara Colour and Clara BW models will undoubtedly have some fresh internals. The FCC application isn't telling us much, but it's early days—no testing has been conducted yet.
The Kobo Clara BW already got a spec nudge from a new supplier, boasting a larger battery, which was exclusively available at certain European e-commerce stores… but that's about to change! The Netronix release is set to flaunt minor adjustments across the board, so expect the new models to light up Canada, the US, and beyond.
As for the US, the Kobo e-reader scene has been bone dry for quite a while now. With the new arrivals, the parched market should return to its former glory, bursting with fresh stock.
