Upgraded sensor and charging system details potentially unveiled through recent leaks of the forthcoming Google Pixel Watch 4

The tech world is abuzz with anticipation as Google prepares to unveil its latest offering, the Pixel Watch 4, on August 20. The event will also see the launch of the Pixel 10 series and Pixel Buds 2a.

The Pixel Watch 4 is expected to come in two sizes: 41 mm and 42 mm, boasting a premium crafted design and significant technological advancements over its predecessor. One of its most notable features is the slimmer bezel design and brighter display, offering a more visually appealing and usable screen area.

Under the hood, the Pixel Watch 4 is powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen1 chip, which promises improved performance and efficiency over previous models. The watch is also said to come with a bigger battery, with the 45mm version reportedly providing up to 40 hours of battery life and the 40mm about 30 hours of always-on display usage.

Health tracking is a major focus for the Pixel Watch 4. It is equipped with advanced features such as ECG, SpO2 (blood oxygen), breathing rate, heart rate variability (HRV), skin temperature monitoring, stress detection, and advanced sleep tracking capable of detecting snoring. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate features like auto workout detection, over 40 exercise modes, built-in GPS, and 5 ATM water resistance, making the watch ideal for both workout and outdoor use.

The LTE model of the Pixel Watch 4 offers 2 years of free data on Google Fi Wireless, primarily for data services like music streaming and messaging (without voice calling capability). Software improvements include Wear OS 6 integration, Google Wallet, Google Maps, Google Assistant, message replies, a safety mode with fall detection, trusted contact alerts, emergency SOS, and quick medical ID access for first responders.

A notable design change is the improved repairability enabled by the new charging design, making the Pixel Watch 4 easier to open and service compared to previous versions. The watch also supports a new fast charging dock, facilitating quicker and more convenient recharging.

Rumours suggest that the Pixel Watch 4 will have better precision in readings such as heart rate due to the "Gen 3 sensor hub". It is also reported to have "dual frequency" GPS, which implies the wearable will be more accurate and faster in reporting its location. The Pixel Watch 4's battery life is expected to reach 30 hours between charges, representing a 25% boost over the current model.

The side charging system for the Pixel Watch 4 was previously seen in an earlier leak. The charge contacts on the side of the watch casing indicate that the Pixel Watch 4 will indeed have a side charging system.

While the official details about what's being launched on August 20 have only been confirmed as the date, not the specific products, the Pixel Watch 4, if confirmed, could be a contender for our best smartwatches list. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the unveiling!

The Pixel 4 Watch, expected to be unveiled on August 20, will not only showcase a new design with a slimmer bezel and brighter display but also feature smart-home-devices integration, transforming it into a comprehensive gadget and technology powerhouse for daily use. In terms of performance and efficiency, this advanced wearable device will leverage the latest Snapdragon W5 Gen1 chip, offering users an enhanced smartwatch experience.
