Van Oord Starts Work on Poland's 1.5 GW Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm
Van Oord has started work on the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland. The company will transport and install monopiles, which are up to 100 meters long and range in diameter from 7.5 to 10.5 meters. The first monopile foundations have been produced, and seabed preparation is underway in the Baltic Sea.
The Baltica 2 project, with a capacity of 1.5 GW, will feature 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW-222 turbines. These will be installed some 40 kilometers off the Polish coast near Ustka. The project aims to deliver energy to Polish homes by the second quarter of 2027.
Steelwind Nordenham GmbH is supplying 34 monopiles for the project, with a total of 111 planned, including 4 for the offshore substation. The first load out of completed foundations is scheduled for late 2025. Notably, the majority of secondary steel structures for the foundations are being manufactured in Poland. EEW and Steelwind are jointly supplying the monopiles, with EWW providing 77 foundations.
The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm is progressing steadily. With the first monopiles produced and seabed preparation ongoing, the project remains on track to deliver clean energy to Polish homes by 2027. The use of local manufacturing for steel structures also supports the Polish economy.
