Viasat amplifies its global Internet of Things services with the launch of IoT Nano

Viasat has announced the launch of its next-generation IoT Nano connectivity service, a cost-effective, low-power, global two-way messaging solution designed for remote and challenging environments. Powered by ORBCOMM's OGx satellite IoT technology, this service offers a range of benefits for various industries such as agriculture, transport, utilities, mining, and environmental monitoring [1][2].

Key features of the IoT Nano service include faster message delivery speeds, larger message sizes, ultra-reliable global coverage with 99.5% uptime through Viasat’s L-band network, and low data consumption using non-IP messaging. This enables near-real-time asset monitoring and control across multiple sectors [1][2].

The service optimizes power usage, leading to smaller and cheaper solar panels, batteries, and enclosures. It also supports new low-cost hardware modules for OEMs and solution providers to build custom devices [1][3].

ORBCOMM's president of satellite IoT, Dave Roscoe, stated that OGx makes it possible for partners to enter new markets, expand use cases, and drive incremental growth. He further added that this partnership with Viasat will enable solution providers to build and scale IoT applications across various industries [4].

The partnership between Viasat and ORBCOMM focuses on industries including agriculture, transportation, maritime, oil and gas, heavy equipment, and mining [5]. Andy Kessler, the vice president of enterprise and land mobile at Viasat, stated that IoT Nano provides flexible, scalable, and energy-efficient IoT connectivity [6].

OGx, backed by ORBCOMM's proven terminals, network, and field support, delivers faster speeds, larger messages, and lower power usage compared to its predecessor [7]. IoT Nano delivers near real-time visibility and situational awareness, as well as richer, more actionable data for end customers [1].

ORBCOMM is excited to partner with Viasat to enable solution providers to build and scale IoT applications across various industries. For more information, visit: https://www.viasat.com/enterprise/services/iot-nano/
