Say hello to robot Wars! It's 2025, and the RoboCap Russia championship is heating up in Tomsk, right at the stunning Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR)! Our dear reporter from RIA Tomsk has the scoop on this nerve-wracking tournament.
You might already know about RoboCup, a non-profit fest that promotes AI, robotics, and related techologies by hosting thrilling robotic competitions. Since 2016, the open-to-all RoboCup Russia event has been popping off in Tomsk, with this year marking its 10th anniversary from May 13 to 15. And a whopping 180 teams are ready to face off
Victor Rulevskiy, the fearless leader of TUSUR, shared his excitement about the growing event. "RoboCup has ballooned over the years, and we're over the moon about the increasing number of teams!" he said, beaming at the opening ceremony of the championship. "Just look at the progression - in 2015 we had around 90 teams, but now it's well over 180! And each year these teams are becoming more and more sophisticated."2
It's worth mentioning that last year, the winners of our local championship snagged top spots at the Asian-Pacific Championships held in China. And this year, the victorious champions could embark on a shiny new adventure to the scorching sands of the United Arab Emirates2!
This jaw-dropping event is proudly organized by none other than TUSUR and the Tomsk Oblast administration. Students from various regions of Russia, as well as other countries such as Novosibirsk, Moscow, Sakhalin, Chelyabinsk, and permission, are rocking their best STEM-game in this thrilling tournament.2
Visiting teams from Belarus and Uzbekistan have also joined the fun this year! Let the battles commence
