Wirecard's Markus Braun Accused in New Stock Investment Scam
A 64-year-old male from Kaiserslautern has fallen victim to a suspected fraud involving stock investments. The male, who wished to remain anonymous, invested several thousand euros but received none of the promised profits. The alleged mastermind behind the scam is Markus Braun, the former CEO of Wirecard, currently in custody facing charges related to the Wirecard scandal.
The victim was lured into the scheme through an advertisement on a social media platform. He was then invited to join a chat group and instructed to download a specific app on his smartphone to commence online stock trading. The criminal police have launched an investigation into the case following the male's complaint on Tuesday. Braun, who served as Wirecard's CEO until his arrest in 2020, is accused of large-scale account forgery and other crimes connected to the Wirecard scandal. If found guilty, he could face a significant prison sentence.
The male from Kaiserslautern has urged others to be cautious when investing online, warning that such scams can lead to substantial financial losses. The criminal police are appealing for anyone with information about the case to come forward. Meanwhile, Braun's trial is ongoing, with the court expected to deliver a verdict later this year.
