YCE Gets $5M Boost for Green Hydrogen Plant in Oroville
Yosemite Clean Energy (YCE) has received a significant boost towards its green energy goals. The California Energy Commission (CEC) has awarded the company a $5M grant to advance ultra-low carbon fuels. This funding will support the development of YCE's hydrogen production plant in Oroville, California, projected to be completed in Q1 2026.
The plant aims to convert forest biomass into green hydrogen fuel, a clean energy source that can power various transportation modes and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. YCE is utilizing proven Austrian-based gasification technology, commercialized by Repotec, to produce commercial-scale carbon-negative green fuels.
This innovative project not only promotes a cleaner, greener future but also benefits public health. By reducing particulate emissions and mitigating wildfire risk through the utilization of wood waste, YCE's efforts have a dual positive impact. The grant will accelerate the development of YCE's ultra-low carbon hydrogen-based technologies, bringing the company closer to its goal of a sustainable energy future.
With the $5M grant, YCE is poised to create over 55 jobs in the local community while advancing its clean energy initiatives. CEO Thomas Hobby expressed excitement about the funding, acknowledging it as a significant milestone towards producing sustainable transportation fuel and helping rural communities.
