Zero-Emission Ship Hanaria Wins 2024 Award for Sustainability
The Hanaria, a pioneering zero-emission passenger ship, has made waves in the domestic shipping industry. This innovative vessel, built by Norway's Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder, has been recognised for its significant contributions to carbon neutrality and sustainability.
The Hanaria, spanning 29.7 meters in length and 10 meters in breadth, can accommodate up to 103 passengers. Its standout feature is its unique propulsion system, which allows it to select power from hydrogen fuel cells, lithium-ion batteries, or biodiesel fuel. This versatility enables the ship to significantly reduce its CO2 emissions, achieving reductions of 53% to a remarkable 100% compared to conventional ships using fossil fuels.
The Hanaria's environmental credentials have not gone unnoticed. It has been honoured with the prestigious Ship of the Year 2024 award by JASNAOE, a testament to its innovative design and commitment to sustainability. The shipyard, Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder, should be commended for its role in constructing this groundbreaking vessel.
The Hanaria, with its groundbreaking design and multiple power sources, is a beacon of hope for a cleaner, greener future in the shipping industry. Its success paves the way for other vessels to follow suit, contributing to the global effort towards carbon neutrality.
